Cooling Line Meter
Measuring the heat flow inside your die casting dies is a very effective trouble-shooting technique.
From this information you can pin point the cause of many production problems.
However, it is a measurement which is often overlooked by engineers and technicians. This stems mainly from the fact that it takes some time to set up and record the data and interrupts production.
This new Cooling Line Meter makes it quick and simple to measure all the important aspects of a water based die cooling system.
It is a rugged compact device which is small enough to be moved to any machine in your plant.
Select the water cooling line you wish to measure and connect the inlet and outlet hoses to the die.
Then connect the water supply and water return lines to the cooling tower system.
Plug it into the Control Panel and start casting parts.
While production is running, the Cooling Line Meter will measure and display:
- Inlet Water Temperature
- Outlet Water Temperature
- Water Flow Rate
- Cooling Line Power
- Total Water Used
- Total Heat Removed
By repeating this for each cooling line, you build up a complete thermal picture of your die.
You can compare the actual heat removed with the theoretical calculations used in the die design.
You can monitor the performance of each cooling line over time.
Trouble-Shooting
If you suspect that the cooling lines in a die are not functioning adequately, you can quickly measure it and take corrective action. It can detect blockages, restrictions and mineral build-up inside the channels.
Process Improvement
Dies with long cycle times can be easily measured and analysed. From this information, an action plan can be developed for changes to the cooling lines. Adding an extra syphon perhaps, or increasing the cooling channel diameter.
Further measurements will enable the improvement in the cooling rate to be quantified.
You will now know objectively if it improved a lot, improved a little or had no effect at all.
Long Term Monitoring
On important dies, cooling line measurements can be made at regular intervals to enable any changes to be detected and corrected before it becomes a production problem.
The Cooling Line Meter is a new tool to give you accurate information about what is happening inside your dies.
If you can measure it, you can improve it!
